Summer hits, from rap to country music

The ultimate playlist is essential for any great summer vacation. It’s this music that we will be jamming to in the car while coming home from the beach with friends.

These are the songs that we will hear during parties, or while working on our tan. They get us in the mood for the season where we can let loose.

No more AP or final exams. No essay writing at 2 a.m. These songs prepare us for the highlight of the year: summer.

From new albums to breaking hits, the music industry has been bustling in 2015 and 2016. Here is a summer playlist filled with today’s music from different genres.

“One Dance” – Drake (feat. Wizkid and Kyla)

From Drake’s new hit album, “Views”,“One Dance” is sure to be a huge hit for the summer. The pounding drums and Drake’s smooth voice is featured with performances from Kyla and Whizkid. The song has hit No. 1 on Billboard and iTunes charts.

“Adventure of a Lifetime” – Coldplay 

This is Coldplay’s last hit before the successful British band breaks up. The euphoric song has interesting disco sounds and funky guitar which creates a summer-like aura. Coldplay’s last tour will be this summer, and their final concert will take place at Levi’s Stadium on Sept. 3, in Santa Clara.

“Never Be Like You”- Flume ft. Kai

“Never Be Like You” serves as the first track on Flume’s new album, “Skins.” The Australian electronic music producer incorporates futuristic bass sounds which resonate well with Kai’s voice. The albun features famous artists like Vic Mensa, Beck, Tove Love,  Aluna George, and more.

Somewhere On A Beach”- Dierks Bentley

The song’s title could not be more obvious, because this country hit screams summer. The cliché lyrics and catchy guitar music are perfect for vacation time. The song from Bentley’s recent album “Black” has climbed it’s way up the country charts, and is popular among many country fans.

“Hold Up”- Beyoncé

Beyonce upholds her nobility with her new album “Lemonade.” “Hold Up” is the most successful track from the album, according to top charts. The soulful melody has a hint of reggae influence. The bouncy beat and relatable lyrics make this song an excellent choice.

“Juke Jam”- Chance the Rapper (feat. Justin Bieber and Towkio)

Chance’s new mixtape, “Coloring Book,” was released on May 13. “Juke Jam” is the best track for summer. Chance reminisces about past love and parties from when he was younger alongside Justin Bieber and Towkio. “Coloring Book” includes more introspective tracks about the rapper’s life, and has features from Kanye West, DJ Khaled, and more.

“Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1” – Kanye West

From Kanye’s newest album, “The Life of Pablo,” this  eclectic song has a mix of soul, hip hop, and rap. Metro Boomin, the music producer who helped Kanye with three songs on the album, embellished the song with the captivating beat. The song’s beat drop and unapologetically notorious lyrics make a summer anthem.

“Another One”- Mac Demarco

Mac Demarco’s “Another One” is one for the more mellow summer days. The sensitive songwriter released his latest album in August 2015. The song’s punchy drumline, relaxed atmosphere, and low bass capture summertime sadness.

“Midnight Snack”- Homeshake

The album “Midnight Snack” was released in September 2015. The track captures summer melancholiness like Demarco. Homeshake was created by Mac Demarco’s ex-guitarist, Peter Sagar. The band has the same bittersweet tones and bassline as Demarco. “Midnight Snack” is great for summer relaxing.

“Mess Around”- Cage the Elephant

Cage the Elephant released “Tell Me I’m Pretty,” in December of 2015. This song was the most popular, and remains  in the top 50 of the alternative charts. The satisfying guitar riffs are the highlight of the song.

“Space Song”- Beach House

Beach House’s sub-pop genre is ideal for relaxing on a summer day. “Space Song” is from their album, “Depression Cherry,”  which was released in August 2015. The song’s lush tones and dim spaces reflect a feeling of daydreaming.

“Burn the Witch”- Radiohead

From Radiohead’s new album, “Burn the Witch,” this is one of the best songs on the album. Radiohead has moved away from their electronic side, and returned to their rock roots. The song has beautiful spaces that combines with the guitar and make it so refined.
