Noises From the Newsroom

Favorite Show: “Arrested Development”

What I’m Watching: “Community”

Genre: Comedy

“Community” is a half-hour sitcom on NBC with an all-star cast, including Joel McHale, Donald Glover, and Chevy Chase.

McHale stars as a disbarred lawyer who is going to community college to get his degree.

He makes a fake study group in order to get to know a girl, but ends up becoming close friends with the group instead.

It’s easily the best written show on TV, and every character has their moments of genius.

Danny Pudi gives an inspired performance weekly, as Abed, who can’t tell the difference between real-life and television.

It hasn’t gotten the ratings or award attention it deserves yet, but it will soon!

It’s on Thursday nights at 8 p.m., watch it please. I don’t want it getting cancelled.

Favorite Show: “Psych”

What I’m Watching: “The Office”

Genre: Comedy

“The Office,” a mockumentary-style comedy series based on its British counterpart, never ceases to entertain its viewers as it depicts the routine lives of employees at Dunder-Mifflin, a  Pennsylvania paper company.

The show has had critical acclaim from prominent critics and is known for its superb quality.

The show kicked off its eighth season on Sept. 22 under intense scrutiny, though, because of the departure of Michael Scott (Steve Carell), one of the main characters of the series.

Despite the absence of this key character, “The Office” remains an excellent program, and definitely has the potential to keep its good reputation.

If you enjoy gut-busting humor, catch this new season on NBC on Thursday at 9 p.m. to see how the employees fare without Michael.

Name: Samantha Cookson

Favorite Show: “Law and Order: UK”

What I’m Watching: “Modern Family”

Genre: Comedy

Watching trailers for “Modern Family,” one doesn’t really know what to expect.

But it doesn’t take one long to realize it is one of the most hilarious programs ever to be aired on TV.

The show follows three “modern” families as they go about their daily lives.

All related, the three families are made up of a gay couple with their adopted child, a typical stay-at-home-mom, and working father, with three children, and an old man with a wife the same age as his daughter and her son.

The way they all react to and work out their day to day issues provides gut-busting must-see entertainment that leaves viewers wanting more every week.

Modern Family is aired every Wednesday night.

Name: Nicole Pipp

Favorite Shows: “American Idol,” “Dancing with the Stars”

What I’m Watching: “X Factor”

Genre: Competition

Honestly, do we really need another show where we vote in for our favorite?

No, not really.

BUT, Simon and Paula’s fighting again? And the Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger and music producer L.A. Reid all as judges?

I’m definitely expecting more from this show not only because of the judges, but the UK version also discovered Leona Lewis.

What makes the “X Factor” different from all other competition shows is that each judge aids the contestants in their particular category by not only choosing their song of the week but also their performance.

I’m setting my DVR to Fox on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
