New and noteworthy in the world of video games

In the last few months, the Internet has been exploding with joy, rage, grief, and controversy as many major video game companies made several major announcements.

“Super Smash Bros” and several indie games have had a serious impact in the hearts of gamers everywhere with announcements and events released in the past few weeks.

For “Super Smash Bros 4,” several characters have been announced, including Rosalina and Luma, “Animal Crossing” villager, “Wii Fit” trainer, Little Mac,  and returning characters Sonic the Hedgehog, King Dedede, and Lucario just to name a few.

For the first time, “Smash Bros” will be available for portable gaming, set to release on the Nintendo 3DS.

Director of the game Masahiro Sakurai has mentioned that the 3DS version will feature several maps inspired by titles only available on that platform, similarly with the Wii U version.

The game is to be released later this year.

“The Very Organized Thief” is an indie game in which you play as an intruder that must collect household items, valuables, and cash hidden throughout a house before the owner gets home.

With every replay, the list resets and gives you a new set of items to look for with everything in different places around the house. This allows for a different game experience with each play-through.

Another popular game available on Steam is “The Stanley Parable.”

In this game you play as a guy who works at a very mundane job pushing buttons that show up on his computer screen. One day nothing shows up on his computer and he decides to explore his work building, only to find it devoid of people.

The game is presented in first person view, in which the player must explore and interact with their environment to reach multiple endings throughout the game. Full of dark humor and incredibly engaging, this game can appeal to a broad audience.

On Dec. 11, Facepunch Studios released the Alpha to their survival game “Rust.”

Available to Steam for $19.99, you play as a human in a post-apocalyptic world in which you must survive from things such as mutants, animals, cold, hunger, and other players who may try to kill you.

To ensure your survival you must build a shelter, collect weapons, and form alliances with anyone you can find.

The game has received praise for its combination of gameplay styles from “Day-Z” and “Minecraft.”

Given the new releases and announcements that game companies have made, I am looking forward to what the game industry has to offer in the future.
