There’s no fault in John Green’s stars

Cal High students can’t spend five minutes on campus without hearing at least one student eagerly recommending a John Green novel to friends.

For those students who’ve been living under a rock, Green is an up-and-coming author known for his heart-wrenching young adult novels.

In addition to writing, Green is also known for his popular YouTube channel “VlogBrothers” and his charity campaign “Project for Awesome,” which has raised almost $ 1 million this year alone.

Green has only published six novels, but he has already become one of the most well-known authors in the country. He was even named one of TIME magazine’s “100 most influential people in the world.”

This prestigious award was given to the 100 most important, globally recognized figures, and included recipients Barack Obama, Pope Francis, and Beyoncé.

And just when he couldn’t get any more attention, some of Green’s books are now being made into movies.

Green’s most popular novel is “The Fault in Our Stars,” which tells the story of star-crossed lovers living with terminal cancer. This tragic story became an instant hit with readers everywhere, debuting atop the New York Times Best Seller list.

It didn’t take long for film studio executives to realize that this book could be adapted into a touching, endearing, and profitable movie. The film rights to the book were optioned by Fox 2000 within the same month that the book was released.

“The Fault in Our Stars,” which will be released in theatres June 6, has become one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year.

The movie’s female lead, Hazel Grace, is portrayed by the Golden Globe-nominated actress Shailene Woodley. Augustus Waters, the lead male character, is played by newcomer Ansel Elgort. This is only Elgort’s third movie, but he has already proven himself to be a talented and convincing actor.

This is not the first film Woodley and Elgort have done together, as the two also starred in the sci-fi film “Divergent” earlier this year. Woodley played the film’s heroine, Tris, while Elgort played the role of Caleb, Tris’ brother.

The couple appears to have great chemistry, and fans will not be disappointed watching these actors bring their favorite characters to life.

But before “The Fault in Our Stars” is even released at the box office, another of Green’s books has received a movie deal.

In “Paper Towns,” also being made into a movie, a high school boy named Quentin helps his crush Margo carry out an ingenious act of revenge. But when Margo mysteriously disappears a day after their adventure, Quentin soon realizes that there might be more to her than meets the eye.

Fox 2000, the same company that produced “The Fault in Our Stars,” will be working on “Paper Towns.” Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who wrote the script for “The Fault in Our Stars,” will be writing for “Paper Towns” as well.

Quentin, the lead character in “Paper Towns,” will be played by actor and musician Nat Wolff, who got his start as the lead singer in The Naked Brother’s Band. As he got older, he switched his focus from music to acting.

Wolff is still somewhat of a newcomer to acting, gaining minor roles in films such as “Admission,” “New Year’s Eve” and “Palo Alto.”

Wolff even had a minor role in “The Fault in Our Stars” as Isaac, a cancer patient who struggles with the fact that he has become blind. Despite being new to acting, Wolff is a skilled actor and will play his roles well in both “Paper Towns” and “The Fault in Our Stars.”

Green will also be an executive producer on “Paper Towns,” assuring readers that the story will not lose its value in the book to screen transition.

There are even rumors that a third book of Green’s may end up on the big screen soon. The film rights to the novel “Looking For Alaska” were acquired by Paramount Pictures in 2005.

The screenplay was potentially going to be written and directed by Josh Schwartz, creator of the television series “The OC.”

With Green’s recent rise to popularity, producers are showing more interest in making this project happen.

Simply put, John Green is kind of a big deal. And with all of these works bringing Green into the spotlight, it’s safe to say that we will be seeing a lot more of this truly talented author.
