“Supernatural” was renewed for its 10th season in February. The show features, from left to right, Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles), and Castiel (Misha Collins).

It’s uncertain whether the popular TV show, “Supernatural”, will be renewed after the current running season.

The show follows two brothers, Dean and Sam Winchester (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, respectively) as they spend their lives hunting down mythical beasts and saving the world at the cost of their own happiness.

Season four introduced the third part of the main trio, Castiel (Misha Collins), an “Angel of the Lord” who ends up falling from Grace.

Originally acting as a reluctant ally to the brothers after gripping Dean tight and raising him from perdition (Hell), he quickly became close to them, even forming a “profound bond” with one of them, and turned on Heaven to save them.

The trio has gone through a lot, from stopping the Judeo-Christian apocalypse to escaping Purgatory.

The show has a following of more than 2.5  million viewers, many of whom feel an extreme emotional connection to the characters and have mixed feelings about the possible end of a beloved show.

“I’m going to ask myself ‘Now what?’ when it’s all over,” said sophomore Paola Samaniego.

But some fans appreciate what has already been done and think it’s about time for the show to end.

“If it continues, I would think that, given the years of effort from the entire cast, it may feel that it’s losing its original passion,” said senior Annalise Bussewitz.

It’s true that the show has changed quite a bit since the beginning. The first seasons consisted primarily of family bonding and simple quests to save people from monsters.

As the show continued, the conflicts grew to a larger scale and the plot became increasingly complicated.

Later seasons have included several apocalypses and betrayals up the wazoo.

During the last few seasons, the show turned extremely dark, pushing the trio, and the fans, to their emotional and spiritual limits.

In last year’s season finale, the brothers were put in a position that they had never been in before, losing their humanity and separating, possibly for good.

It’s uncertain how the writers will end this season.

“The best way I can see the show ending is for the Winchesters to reconcile with their past and to find peace,” Bussewitz said.

Added English teacher Cheri Liebow, “I would like to see a Hollywood ending, where both brothers remain intact, and two brothers are united. Of course, then there’s the fateful ending, where Dean gives up his life for Sam, and is reunited with his father.”

Unfortunately, given the show’s track record of character deaths and emotional torture, a happy ending is not likely.

“Obviously, it’s not going to end with a cherry on top,” said Samaniego. “People are going to die.”

Junior Makena Mueller agrees that the show won’t have  a fairy-tale finish.

“I feel like it has to end dramatically, with all of the main characters dead,” said Mueller.

Whether the show ends happily or filled with misery and pain, it will leave behind a legacy of invested fans and a touching story.

It is certain that the end will devastate many fans.

As Dean often said on the show, “There ain’t no me if there ain’t no you.”

But the show’s end isn’t completely set in stone. There’s a possibility it could be renewed  despite the fact that the show’s contract ends after this season.Liebow has high hopes for this.

“If it does end up continuing, I hope the story director will accept ideas from other writers,” Liebow said.

The show’s 10th season began on Oct. 7, and the fate of the Winchesters is now in the hands of the writers.
