Drake leaves his mark at Oracle Arena

Drizzy Drake shook the Bay Area with his Summer Sixteen Tour last Tuesday, September 13. As much as fans appreciated the opening acts, Roy Woods and DVSN, they were focused on their headliner.

The lights shut off, and Drake’s into to the song “Summer Sixteen” filled the arena. Fireworks cracked and the lights flared on. Drake stood in the middle of the stage when the bass dropped and the crowd’s cheers became loud enough to be heard all across the Bay.

The word “Revenge” painted the background behind him as his lyrics spoke to thousands of screaming fans.

“Every tour we place bets on which crowd would be the loudest I always put my money on The Bay,”  said Drake at the beginning of the concert. “ Because I know you all are the most energetic no matter what.”

The crowd was bouncing up and down to the beat of his songs. The energy in the building made everyone in the arena feel on top of the world. All of the fans were singing and rapping along to his lyrics with enough energy to charge a herd of Teslas.

The crowd erupted in a wave of cheers and applause. Next, Drake played “Thizzle Dance”, which is every rap loving, Bay Area native’s jam.

Drake continued through his set list of nearly 50 songs, each paired with unique visual or sound effect.

Fans were singing along to all his songs, feeling invincible. Screaming, “ Started from the bottom now we’re here!” and “ I just want to take care of my people, they don’t have no award for that. Trophies! Trophies!”.

The pump up songs were loved and respected for their energy, but what stole the show was Drake’s live performance of  “Hold On We’re Going Home”. He stood on a platform that flew over the crowd. Blue light balls circled around him forming a vortex of color.

As he flew back down to the stage, he announced that the rapper Future would join him. Smoke erupted on the stage and Future started the song “New Level”. Immediately the crowd went off the walls; jumping and dancing. He went through other popular songs like, “Thought It Was A Drought”, “ March Madness” and “Commas”. Before Future left the stage, Drake joined in and they performed their popular single “ Big Rings”.

As the show came to an end, to get the crowd more pumped up Drake brought out renowned Warriors basketball player, Kevin Durrant. He explained that since he knew Durrant, he had the ability to extend the concert an extra half hour.

Overall, the Drake Summer Sixteen Tour at Oracle Arena was surely memorable and fun. Drake himself was a great performer by keeping the crowd energized with his music. The crowd itself was consistently dancing and cheering. The stage production and light show captivated everyone in the arena throughout the whole show.
