Society is much too raunchy

by Paris Colunga, staff writer

With today’s advanced technology, pop culture has become such a significant part of our everyday lives. It’s on TV, movies, advertising, magazines, and all over the Internet.

There are informative shows such as the History Channel, but the majority of the shows that our society is watching have gotten much more vulgar over the years.

So many things have changed over the past few years and have had a significant effect on our younger generation.

For instance, when did it become OK for girls to show more skin than clothing?

The school administrators now have to dramatically enforce the dress code because some people don’t have the common sense to dress appropriately.

Teenagers and younger kids are watching inappropriate shows and learning from them.

In the adolescent stage, we are picking up on things very fast.

The media encourages this. In advertising, women and their body parts sell everything from food to cars.

This creates the idea that girls should wear more provocative clothing in order to receive attention.

Not only do girls on TV wear skimpy outfits, they also portray a certain lifestyle that can negatively affect the younger generation.

On shows like “Jersey Shore” and “The Bad Girls Club,” which glorify drinking, drugs, and promiscuity.

There reaches a point where we start to lower our standards about what is bound to happen and what has crossed the line.

If society keeps lowering it’s standards then the younger generation is going to be chaotic.

Sophomore Morgan Bennett, has two younger sisters and agrees that society has gotten too raunchy for its own good.

“I don’t like the environment my sisters have to grow up in because I don’t want them to grow up and be all crazy,” said Bennett.

In order to stop this new media from taking over society, kids, teenagers, and adults need to stay true to themselves.

“You have to dig deep and decide who you are and what kind of person you want to be,” said sophomore Brandon Char-Lee.

Everyone has the responsibility and choice to choose their own lifestyle.

Even though the media is such a significant part of our everyday lives, we should decrease the impact it has on us.

We need to remember to stay level headed and stay to true to ourselves.
