‘Breaking Dawn’ hits theaters today

Anticipation for the fifth “Twilight” installment is building among many fans who are wondering if  the final movie will successfully capture the second half of “Breaking Dawn” when it opens on Friday.

Or will Summit Entertainment filmmakers simply break “Twilight” fans’ hearts?

Junior Dallin Slavens is one fan who has confidence  “Breaking Dawn Part: 2” will live up to his high expectations.

“I’m going to watch it and I’m going to love it,” said Slavens.

Freshman Chaturya Gudala thoroughly enjoyed reading the “Twilight” books as well as watching the movies. Her favorite so far is “Eclipse,” but is excited to see what the final movie will have to offer.

“I wouldn’t change anything,” said Gudala. “(The movies) were really good.”

“Twilight” became a worldwide sensation after news broke that the first book would be brought to the big screen in 2008.  People of all ages were enamored with the fantasy world that Stephenie Meyer created in the fiction novels, and fans dreamt of meeting their own vampire sweethearts.

“I couldn’t put (the books) down,” said English teacher Susan King. “I’m glad they got kids to read.”

But only a small number of fans who originally pledged their love to the vampire saga have remained loyal devotees throughout the series’ entire evolution in the film industry.

King had the opportunity of seeing the adaptation of the first installment, “Twilight,” before it was released to the general public, and was disappointed that the movie was so low budget. But as the series gained popularity and was backed more financially, King thought the movies had gotten better over time.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the last one,” said King.

Senior Miranda Shakes is one who only enjoyed “Twilight” before it was placed in the limelight.

“I liked the first one,” said Shakes. “Then it was over-hyped.”

The cast was especially disappointing to many fans with their own ideas of how their epic love story would come to life on the silver screen.

Shakes certainly did not appreciate Summit’s film adaptation of the novels, and only saw the movies at others’ requests.

“Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are both terrible and can’t act,” said Shakes. “Edward I would replace with the lead singer of Dashboard Confessional (Chris Carrabba) because that’s what I pictured him to look like.”

Sophomore Leti Hingano wished the filmmakers had based the movies more on the books, and couldn’t even bear to read the fourth one after watching the movies.

“I actually liked the books,” said Hingano. “But now the movies just killed everything.”

The previous installments of the “Twilight Saga” primarily focused on a human teen, Bella Swan (Stewart), finding first love with the forever young vampire, Edward Cullen (Pattinson). But quite the controversy rose among fans when Bella formed a relationship with werewolf, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), and he fought Edward to be Bella’s only hero.

“I feel like anyone who believes Team Jacob is the winner is a loser,” said Slavens. “It’s all about Team Edward.  He had Bella first.”

Bella ultimately chose to marry Edward, and they unexpectedly conceived a child in “Breaking Dawn: Part One.” But this was no ordinary child, and Bella had to sacrifice her human life in order to carry the baby, Renesmee, to term.

“Breaking Dawn: Part Two” is set to pick up from when Bella opened her red eyes, and in this movie she will have to adjust to life not only as a blood-crazed newborn vampire, but also as a mother to Renesmee (Mackenzie Foy).

But Renesmee’s half-immortal genetic makeup is a novelty in the vampire world, and she mysteriously grows with incredible speed.

To make matters even more complicated,The Volturi, an Italian vampire clan, thinks Renesmee is purely immortal. They suspect that her young age will make her unstable and that she will expose all vampires’ existence to the world.

The Cullens will have to become allies with other foreign clans along with their natural enemies, the werewolves, in order to protect the truly harmless child.

Will the famous characters sacrifice their lives in order to save Renesmee? Will Bella really choose Edward in the end? Or does it not matter at all because the movie will simply be a comedic adaptation by terrible actors?

These questions will all be resolved today.
