New Eminem album draws harsh criticism

Eminem released his long waited 15th anniversary record, “ShadyXV,” on Nov. 24.

As a revelation to all hip hop/rap listeners, the record wasn’t very welcome to some big name pop artists who were mentioned in the music

As the record being a tribute to 15 years of Eminem’s record company, Shady Records, Eminem had all of the artists on his record label perform a few hardcore last hurrah style songs, including himself.

Tweleve songs on the record are new, performed by the current members on Shady Records, while 12 are from old or discontinued members of the record company.

The style of the record is harsh. “The Real Slim Shady” really stood up on this one, and that caused a lot of controversy within the music industry

One of the most notable, or hilarious, pieces of lyrics in his album is from one of his performed songs “Vegas” by Bad Meets Evil, a duet group consisting of Eminem and Ryan Montgomery.  They rap, “So what’s it gon’ be? Put that s*** away Iggy, you gon’ blow that rape whistle on me!”

Basically, this states that Eminem wants to hook up with one of the most prestigious pop/hip hop stars of the year. And I personally find it hilarious and a great wordplay in his fast paced song, but Iggy Azalea herself had a different idea.

After hearing the song, Azalea tweeted,” I’m bored of the old men threatening young women as entertainment trend and much more interested in the young women getting $ trend.”

She also tweeted, “zzzz… its (sic) especially awkward because my 14 year old brother is the biggest Eminem fan and now the artist he admired says he wants to rape me. nice!… women in music have the bigger balls anyhow we endure much more harassment.”

Obviously, it doesn’t look like things are looking good on her side.

Thinking about the way Azalea emphasizes her tweets, it’s starts to come in mind how she seems a bit hypocritical.

In Azalea’s music, she uses racial and gender insults in her music to help make her rap songs more like songs by famous hip hop/rap artists.

Artists like Eminem, for example

It’s also weird Azalea playing the “someone said something mean about me” card when she is best known for her racist tweets, her lack of caring of others’ attitude, her body, her ridiculous outfits, and then her music. In that specific order.

It’s kind of hard to see how she is playing the victim in this scenario, as she also claimed she competed in rap battles to help improve on her skills, which is basically a one minute long bundle of insults rapped to an acapella beat toward your opponent.

If she can’t take it, why is she dishing it out, too?

Why would Azalea be starting controversy over a hip hop album when she aims to release the same type of music?

If anyone has heard a few of her hit radio songs, people will understand her lyrics are definitely not for the faint of heart.

So why would she be making such a big deal about a small mention of her in a rap song when she plans on doing the exact same thing in her music career?

The music industry, hip hop/rap specifically, is a tough place, even for someone as “Fancy” as Azalea.

The truth of it all is, no hip hop/rap listener cares if a rappers music offends someone. It’s just the nature of the music and is meant to be enjoyed and laughed at. Rap music has always been about one person being better than the next, and this example is no different.

I loved “ShadyXV” and think that all of the rude, grotesque, offensive lyrics in the album are downright hilarious. The slurs are there to entertain audiences, and I think that that’s what this album did.
