Sophomore John Ty works diligently as he grades papers as a part time job at the Eye Level Learning Center. He hopes to continue this job in the summer.

With summer rapidly approaching, there is only so much time to plan a family vacation or to figure out summer jobs.

Then again, for students who are “one of those types of people”, the only trip they’ll be making is to the fridge and back.

For some people, summer is definitely a time to relax and give their brain a vacation after the exhausting school year.

Even though a lot of students have island getaways in their plans for summer, many of them also plan to earn a few extra bucks and some working experience at their summertime job.

“I’m going to be working at The Ranch at Little Hills most of the summer,” said sophomore Kylie Arnold.

Arnold was interested in working at Little Hills after hearing many of her friends talk about their experience there. A big reason why she wanted to work there is because of the flexible schedule they allowed her to have during the school year.

Arnold’s favorite part about working, other than the money of course, is being able to make people happy and providing them with a fun experience.

Working at Little Hills may include tasks such as taking on the role of a barista, running various activities like face and body art, and supervising a rockwall and bounce house.

Many Cal students use their summer vacation to earn cash to afford a new car that they’ve had their eyes on, or just to start adding to their college funds.

“This summer I’m planning on working and saving up to help pay for college and also just like little day trips with friends to places that aren’t too far away,” said junior Brooke Brandenburg.

Although not fully set on where she wants to work over the summer, Brandenburg hopes to add searching for a job to her summer agenda.

Getting a summer job does not necessarily mean students won’t have time to do other fun summer activities.

“I hope to get a summer job at Target to earn money for a car and I may travel to Las Vegas and the Philippines,” said sophomore Noelle Balagtas.

Although she is not sure what brand or model of car she wants, Balagtas said it is a necessity for the car to be safe and have a good auxillary cord.

Balagtas is planning to watch her cousins play in a basketball tournament in Las Vegas, and in the Philippines she hopes to see what it is like there in comparison to California while also visiting more of her dad’s side of the family.

Quite a few of her friends have worked at Target and said the company pays well. Unfortunately, Balagtas was unable to get a job at Target because she is not 16, but she still hopes to be a cashier for them in the future.
