Ben & Jerry’s political move-mint

“Go Shawty, It’s Sherbert Day,” “Pop, Lock and Chocolate,” and “All Chocolate Matters.”

These were just a few proposed names for the new Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor that was created for the Black Lives Matter movement.

Black Lives Matter is a movement that has been followed for quite some time now.

African Americans are shot and killed by police because of the color of their skin, which created this movement in summer of 2013.

Because the Black Lives Matter is now at its peak, and more and more big companies are taking part.

Some of the other companies are Facebook, Google, and even the music radio app, Pandora.

The Ben & Jerry’s website shared on Oct. 7 why black lives matter.

“They matter because they are children, brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers. They matter because the injustices they face steal from all of us – white people and people of color alike.”

Because of this, many people have been boycotting the ice cream company, thinking that it is discriminating against people who are not of African American descent.

The Blue Lives Matter movement , which supports police officers who are killed for the actions of the murder of black people, has boycotted Ben & Jerry’s for their decision on the new ice cream flavor.

According to a statement by Blue Lives Matter, “By spreading these false and misleading statements. Ben & Jerry’s lends an appearance of legitimacy to the baseless claims that police officers are killing men based on the color of their skin.

“This message has inspired the assassination and attempted assassination of police officers, and it costs officers their lives.”

While Blue Lives Matter is avoiding Ben & Jerry’s for this, others are boycotting for the fact that they are now known as a liberal company because of this new act.

But a lot of people have been boycotting Ben & Jerry’s since same sex marriage was legalized and they temporarily changed their ice cream flavor Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough to I Dough, I Dough.

“Across the country and around the globe, the movement for marriage equality is on an unstoppable roll, generating history-making victories,” Ben & Jerry’s stated on their website.

But Ben & Jerry’s have supported countless other movements.

In 1996, their foundation showed support for the LGBT community by awarding grants to P.F.LA.G, which consists of LGBT family and friends.

Then in 1999, Ben & Jerry’s showed support for Vermont’s Civil Union Bill, then the Employment Non-Discrimination Act in 2001.

More and more went on during the years that gave Ben & Jerry’s the reputation of being “liberal”. These incidents caused people, such as those involved in the Blue Lives Matter, to either boycott their ice cream. Ben & Jerry’s political beliefs made some people support the company even more.

After days of coming up with a name for the new flavor, Ben & Jerry’s finally decided on “Empower Mint”. The flavor is peppermint ice cream with fudge brownies and fudge swirls.

It began selling in stores on Oct. 11.

“All lives do matter. But all lives will not matter until Black lives matter,” read Ben & Jerry’s “Why Black Lives Matter” website page.
