Live 105’s Not So Silent Night

Where: Oracle Arena, Oakland

When: Friday, Dec. 11

Featured Artists: Weezer, BΔSTILLE, Foals, X Ambassadors, Death Cab for Cutie, CHVRCHΞS, Halsey, and Silversun Pickups

Students can step out of their comfort zones this holiday season by joining in the celebration at the Not So Silent Night (NSSN) music festival. This year’s lineup for NSSN features several of the biggest names in modern rock, ranging from indie rock to alternative rock.

The leading musical act of the lineup, with more than 3 million likes on Facebook, 1.57 million followers on Twitter, and nearly 200,000 subscribers on YouTube, is Weezer. As a four member veteran rock band, they have released several albums such as “Pinkerton” and “Everything Will Be Alright in the End” since their debut in Los Angeles back in 1992.

Another notable act at the 2015 NSSN is a three-member indie pop band named BΔSTILLE. This group debuted a few years ago in 2010 and has been receiving lots of love for their music in the past few years.

BΔSTILLE creates its own unique sound by mixing rock, alternative, electronic dance music (EDM), and R&B sounds together. They are most popularly known for their hit single “Pompeii,” which was released two years ago and received major airplay and promotion. “Pompeii” was the most streamed song in the UK for six months straight, placing BΔSTILLE in the light of popularity.

The remaining lineup performs music such as indie rock, alternative rock, electropop, indie pop, synthpop, and electronic music.

NSSN is hosted by Live 105 (KITS), a San Francisco-based radio station focusing on modern rock music. On top of the annual holiday-themed concerts, Live 105 has also hosted other music festivals in the Bay Area, such as Live 105’s BFD.

NSSN has been going on for many years since the late 1900s and it is quite well known among many music lovers. Tickets are on for a one-day sale and are known to sell out quickly.

Although the lineup for this year’s NSSN ranges from newbie artists such as Halsey to veteran bands such as Weezer, they are all passionate music lovers who will bring a rockin’ music festival for the holidays.

This festival is being hosted near a ski resort in the mountains on the gorgeous campus of Lake Tahoe Community College. It sets a wonderful tone for the winter season. Pre-festival experience will be up in the mountains of South Lake Tahoe on the slopes.

There is currently a huge lineup featuring 46 artists for SnowGlobe’s three-day festival this year. The majority of the lineup is primarily related to electronic music.

DJ duo, Jack Ü, consists of singer Skrillex and rapper Diplo. Both artists are producers and songwriters who specialize in EDM and trap music. This duo was formed only two years ago, but their many years of individual experience allows them to create great music for their audience.

Australian electronica musician Chet Faker has debuted for only a few years so far, but his singles and albums have been  high on Australian charts.

Also attending 2015’s SnowGlobe music festival is Norwegian DJ, Cashmere Cat. Focusing on electronic and breakbeat, Cashmere Cat has appeared as a featured artist and producer for Ariana Grande’s chart-topping album, “My Everything.” He was also one of Grande’s opening acts for her 2015 tour.

SnowGlobe has been going on for only a couple of years, but already more than 50,000 people have journeyed to chilly South Lake Tahoe to celebrate the upcoming New Year’s.

General admission and VIP tickets are both up for sale. This event does not have any age requirements, so take along all of your music loving friends and family to end this year with a musical bang.
