Any chance to get glammed up is exciting, and many Cal High students are ecstatic for prom and ball season.  There have been numerous beauty and fashion trends flying around lately, but prom trends have always been consistent with their core standards.

Embellishments and elegant floor-length skirts have always been popular additions to prom and ball looks.

As for dress styles, mermaid gowns have been trending for years, due to the flattering silhouettes they create.

But a few new trends have been popping up the last year or so. Two piece dresses, cut outs or slits, glowing skin, and loose up-dos are definitely trending.

Two-piece dresses have gained immense popularity in the last two years. These dresses consist of a crop top, usually decorated with exquisite floral detailing, beautiful lace, dazzling gems or sequins, and a matching skirt.

Separating the dress into two parts seems to make it a bit easier to change in and out of, saving a lot of energy that can be wasted trying to pull a floor length gown over your head or squeezing your legs and butt through the top part of your dress.

The skirt portion of the dress has a variety of options, ranging from short, fluffy, and sweet to long, form-fitting, and elegant.

Slits can be incorporated on the skirts of two-piece dresses, but cut outs and slits have also been spotted on dresses of all kinds. Cut outs and slits have been a reoccurring trend for years.Cut outs normally appear somewhere on the torso of the dress, instantly transforming a plain dress.

It’s also a commonly used technique to emphasize a certain area of your body. As for slits, they draw attention to your legs.

Similar to cut outs, they provide another way to spice up a basic gown.  They also show off your gorgeous shoes.

Regular long gowns hide heels, but slits allow the beauties to shine through, even if the skirt is floor-length.

Shoes are an important aspect of any outfit.

Since prom and ball are dances, comfortable shoes are key.

Students usually switch their toe-crushing stilettos and into sneakers. But if you’re wearing a floor-sweeping gown and your shoes aren’t  visible, the first step can easily be skipped. Your feet will thank you.

If you do decide to wear a pair of beautiful heels, lace-up heels are a trendy option. Most of them are seen in a suede material, but they come in all styles and colors. They lace up around your ankle, to ensure that your shoes will stay on.

Lace-up heels will help anybody achieve their dreamy Cinderella moment, while avoiding the awful part where the Disney princess loses her lovely glass slipper.

Lately, the popular makeup trend to achieve is the look of a glowing goddess. Formal dances are no exception.

Whether it’s mixing liquid illuminators with your foundation, piling on intense highlight on the high points of your face, or just moisturizing for a natural glow, luminous skin is the goal.

No matter the hair length, the most recent formal hairstyles that have been trending have the same “imperfectly perfect” look to them.

Instead of stiff and sleek hair, loose and messy up-dos are more commonly seen.

Face framing pieces are also pulled out in the front to achieve an effortlessly beautiful look. All these trends are just for inspiration.

But at the end of the day, prom and ball are all about enjoying yourself, having fun with your friends, and  cherishing the final years of high school.

Never forget, confidence   and having fun are the best accessories.
