A rough guide to surviving the parking lot

Backed up parking lots, speeding seniors, early mornings and a whole lot of traffic.

It is almost impossible to find good parking spaces in Cal High’s back parking lot, and unnecessary cars and careless drivers make the mornings even more stressful.

Many senior drivers have come close to getting into accidents as they try to make their way off campus for lunch and back on time.

Everyone struggles in the back parking lot, so here are some tips to avoid mowing down that unsuspecting freshman or colliding with one of the countless soccer moms who insist on entering the lot because their darling children can’t muster the energy to walk to or from the front of the school

1. No cop, no stop. Now obviously we all like to follow the rules, but unless there’s someone to watch us, is it really necessary for us to stop for everyone or wait at stop signs? Just speed past.

2. Parents. Stay out! This means you! Your precious little child can cross the street and walk to their classes. Come on, they’re in high school now. No more special treatment. Use the drop off zone in front of the office if you really want your kids to be safe. Chill out.

3. Your horn is your best friend. If someone’s doing something you don’t like, just honk at them. Let them know that you’re there and don’t be afraid to be loud.

4. Go as fast as you can. You want to get out as soon as possible right? Just speed. Zip past the long line in the incoming lane and leave the traffic behind.

5. Annoy other drivers with your awful parking skills. Everyone likes a show. Don’t be afraid to reverse and park and reverse and park 10 times before you actually park your car and get out.

6. Be aggressive. If you want a parking spot, you should get it. Cut the other person off. It makes no sense for you to walk if there’s a parking space available.

7. Hold up traffic. This makes drivers angry, so why not? Maybe check your phone, do your makeup or fix your hair and hold up the angry mob of drivers behind you.

8. Do your own thing. There is no need to watch for other drivers.  They don’t really matter. Just reverse where you want to and park however you feel is the most amusing that morning. Let the other drivers pay attention and watch you reversing.

Just refer to these simple tips and make sure the back parking lot is safe for everyone who’s in it.
