Football is back, baby!

Football is back, with upsets and rookies galore!

Here are the top storylines for Week 1 of the NFL.

  • The St. Louis Rams took down the defending conference champions, Seattle Seahawks, in an overtime thriller. In a decision that was about seven months too late, the Seahawks give the ball to Marshawn Lynch on a 4th-and-1 play in overtime, and he was stuffed behind the line of scrimmage.
  • The new-look Buffalo Bills defense limited Andrew Luck and the Colts en route to a 27-14 victory. Buffalo quarterback Tyrod Taylor was impressive in his Bills debut, as well as newcomers Percy Harvin and Lesean “Shady” McCoy.
  • After trailing by 17 points at one point in the second quarter, Philip Rivers led the Chargers back, scoring 30 straight points in a 33-28 win over the Lions. Keenan Allen tied the all time club record with 15 receptions, while Rivers threw for 404 yards.
  • In a matchup of the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks of the 2015 draft, Marcus Mariota and the Titans thumped the Buccaneers by a final of 42-14. Mariota became the first player since 1961 to throw four or more touchdowns in his first career NFL game. Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston, on the other hand, began his career by throwing an interception on his first NFL pass.
  • In the NFL season opener on Thursday Night, Tom Brady’s Patriots rolled passed the Steelers by a score of 28-21. Tight end Rob Gronkowski furthered proved how unstoppable he is, scoring three touchdowns along the way.
  • Tony Romo led the Cowboys to a dramatic comeback win over the Giants in the Sunday Night game, by a final score of 27-26. Terrible clock management by Eli Manning gave the Cowboys one last chance, with under 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Romo proceeded to drive down the field in less than 1:30, hitting tight end Jason Witten in the end zone with seven seconds left for the victory.

Pivotal Week 2 Matchups

  • New England @ Buffalo, 10 a.m. PT

If the Bills want to be considered serious contenders in the AFC East, this a game     they must win. The defending Super Bowl champion Patriots are coming off a 28-21 victory against the Steelers. The key for Buffalo is for their highly touted defense to contain Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, and hope for a strong follow up performance from their quarterback Taylor.

Fantasy Football Notes: McCoy has been limited in practice by hamstring tightness. Head coach Rex Ryan is hopeful that he will be able to suit up on Sunday. Harvin is coming off a very strong debut with 79 receiving yards and a TD.

  • San Diego @ Cincinnati, 10am PT

Rivers, coming off an astounding 17 point comeback against Detroit, leads the Chargers into Cincinnati to face the Bengals, who are 1-0 after a blowout win in Oakland.

Fantasy Football Notes: Allen is coming off a record-setting showing in Week 1, where he finished with 15 catches. Danny Woodhead received the bulk of the carries in the red zone in Week 1, scoring 2 touchdowns. This should continue in Week 2 against a Bengals defense that has allowed the fifth most fantasy points to RB’s in the last year. Outside of James Jones and Chris Johnson, TE Tyler Eifert has been the hottest pickup on the free agent market this week, with over 100 receiving yards and 2 TD’s last Sunday.

  • Dallas @ Philadelphia, 1:25pm PT

Jason Garrett leads his Cowboys into Philadelphia for a crucial NFC East battle. Chip Kelly’s high tempo offense was less than impressive for a large portion of their disappointing loss at the hands of the Falcons. The Cowboys shocked the Giants in a Sunday night thriller.

Fantasy Football Notes: The Eagles only ran the ball a total of 16 times, with superstar Demarco Murray receiving just eight carries. He has his fantasy owners already biting their nails. Wide receiver Jordan Matthews is coming off a monster game, with 10 receptions and over 100 yards. Falcons rookie RB Tevin Coleman is coming off a nice debut, rushing for 80 yards on 20 carries.

  • Seattle @ Green Bay, 5:30pm PT on NBC

In a rematch of the NFC Championship Game, the Seahawks travel to Lambeau Field to take on the Packers in the Sunday night game.

Fantasy Football Notes: Look for Lynch to deliver another strong performance. Tyler Lockett is a nice sleeper pick for the Seahawks, as he delivered a punt return for a touchdown.  His speed gives him a huge upside and can deliver the big play at any moment.
