The 89th Academy Awards will air on Feb. 26 at 8 p.m.

The glamour and celebration of cinema is nearly here.

The Oscars have returned for their annual night of honoring the motion picture arts and cinematic accomplishments.

Although the actual 89th Academy Awards ceremony isn’t until Feb. 26, awards season has already commenced with the Golden Globes on Jan. 8.

Big winners included “La La Land,” in the category for Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. The film is about two upcoming artists brought together by their passion for what they do.

“Moonlight” won the Golden Globe for Motion Picture, Drama, which is a cinematic masterpiece involving a young adult who copes with his broken home life and discovers himself in the War on Drugs era.

Damien Chazelle’s “La La Land” has gathered several Oscar nominations. The film is nominated for 14 Academy Awards in almost all categories.

No other movie has had this many nominations since “Titanic” and “All About Eve,” according to CNN.

The heavily nominated film has even had stars like Jennifer Lawrence reaching out to express their admiration for the movie. Fans all over the country can’t withhold their love of  “La La Land”. Ever since the film reached theaters on Dec. 9, movie-goers everywhere have oozed utter exuberance for it.

“Moonlight”, a spectacular cinematic experience, also earned a lot of nominations, raking in eight total.

“Manchester by the Sea” is another excellent film that was nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Motion Picture Drama category and is now nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture. The film portrays the story of a middle-aged handyman who has to step up and take care of his 16-year-old nephew whose father dies of a heart condition.

“Hidden Figures,” which follows the story of three empowered African-American women working at NASA in the late 1950s, was not nominated for a Golden Globe, but is now nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.

This year, the Oscars have moved on from the #OscarsSoWhite trend, to now honor, for the first time, six black actors, and include three diverse films for Best Picture, according to the New York Times

Many people are excited to see black representation at the ceremony in works like “Hidden Figures,” “Fences” and “Moonlight” after how controversial the awards were in previous years.

At the 2016 Oscars, the only two movies featuring black leading roles were “Creed” and “Straight Outta Compton.” But the only actors nominated from the two films were both white males in supporting categories.

The Oscar’s private organization’s associates, who chose the winners a few years ago, were 94 percent white and 77 percent male. African-Americans were less than 2 percent of that total, according to a study by the Los Angeles Times.

Other disproval for the Academy Awards was gained because certain fan-favorite movies didn’t make the cut. “Deadpool,” a Marvel Comics film about a mercenary who gains superhuman powers after an experiment, was not nominated.

Some fans are even going to Twitter, outraged at how “Suicide Squad,” a DC Comics film, received a nomination for Best Makeup while “Deadpool” didn’t receive anything.

Many popular actresses and actors have been nominated for an Academy Award.  Some well known names in the Best Actor in a leading role category are Ryan Gosling and Casey Affleck.  Both actors were nominated for a Golden Globe, but Gosling won Best Actor for “La La Land.” Emma Stone, who was winner of the Golden Globe for Best Actress, has been nominated for Best Actress in a leading role along with stars like Meryl Streep, who is nominated for her role in “Florence Foster Jenkins.”

The Golden Globe for Best Director in a Motion Picture was presented to Damien Chazelle for his excellent directing and screen writing in the musical  “La La Land.”

Although director Barry Jenkins did not win the Golden Globe for his directing in “Moonlight,” he was rewarded for his direction of his film with his Oscar nomination.

The Golden Globes has always had an impact on the Academy Awards in all sorts of ways.  In fact, 90 actors who won a Golden Globe also received an Academy Award, according a poll  by New York Daily News.
