This spring brings scares

Upcoming horror films is a mixed bag of scares

“Skater Zombies: The Villan” showcases a post-apocalyptic world ruled by undead skaters.

Ah, spring. Birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, and studios are releasing every horror movie in their arsenal.
It’s almost bizarre how many horror movies come out in spring. It’s not like March and April are known for their terrifying aura or haunting energy—unless the Easter Bunny gives you the creeps.
Nevertheless, it’s time for a spring horror movie highlight reel starting with a shoutout to “Skater Zombies: The Villain”.
In a post-apocalyptic world populated only by skaters, one man stands against an army of female zombies. Though it’s a six-minute short and not a full film, the premise was just too entertaining to slip by unnoticed.
Next is Blumhouse’s “Imaginary”. Revolving around the totally surprising concept of imaginary friends, this movie follows a woman who moves back into her old home, only to be haunted by a teddy bear from her childhood who is extremely mad she left him behind.
No, it wasn’t very good. Moving swiftly on, we arrive at the much better “Late Night With The Devil”. This found-footage style film follows a 70s talk show episode that went horribly wrong, inviting a dark spirit into televisions across the country.
Rounding off the list for March is “Immaculate” with Sydney Sweeney starring as a nun who joins an Italian convent in the middle of nowhere. What could possibly go wrong?
Minor yet predictable spoiler alert: everything.
April brings with it a new wave of frightful films, beginning with “The First Omen”, which is the sixth in a long line of movies from the “The Omen” franchise.
“The First Omen” is a prequel to the rest of the series and tells the story of yet another religious woman in Italy (is this a theme for 2024?) discovering a dangerous conspiracy that could unleash evil upon the world.
Next up is “Abigail”, created by the very same directors as the first and sixth “Scream” movies.
When a group of criminals kidnap the daughter of an underworld boss and hold her for ransom, they discover the bloody truth: she’s a vampire.
What follows is a 109-minute gory bloodbath that’s sure to make audiences… scream.
Wow, a lot of supernatural films on this list. But have no fear (well, maybe have some fear); “Cinderella’s Revenge” is here to satisfy your needs. When Cinderella is pushed too far by her stepmother and stepsisters, she plans violent revenge in this twist on the classic fairytale.
Though that isn’t even half of all the horror movies released this spring, it’s certainly a unique bunch. So sit back, don’t relax, spill popcorn all over the couch at every jump scare, and have a frightening time.
